I have been fortunate enough to not have to deal with my children having ear infections or being violently sick. I am a mother who believes in natural immunity therefore, we only use products that support the immune system rather than destroying it.
In previous years, I lived where the sun doesn’t shine…Wisconsin. I worked with the public and I was sick a lot. In order for me to be excused from work, I had to go to the doctor. Unfortunately, the only tool the Doctor’s knew how to help me was prescribing antibiotics.
When the ear pain wouldn’t go away, and the antibiotics stopped working, I started to get worried. I had to put my health into my own hands. After researching “ear infections”, it turns out that it’s viral and not bacterial which would make antibiotics non-effective.
I am a busy Mom, and I don’t have the time or the interest in making mullein tinctures, (here’s a great website if you would like to make it yourself: http://www.thehippyhomemaker.com/naturally-treat-ear-infections/), I just buy it! Store bought is just as effective.
The only downfall is sourcing. When you make something yourself, you know where every ingredient is from, you know exactly how it was made and you control the sanitary conditions.
I have tried many different brands of mullein and they all have worked effectively.
In the video, I share the Sprouts brand of mullein, but that is just what I had on hand at the time. It works just as good as the brands I’m about to share with you.
Causes of Ear Infections
Food allergies, in my opinion, are the #1 cause for ear infections. You’re probably asking yourself why is my baby getting ear infections when he/she’s not even eating FOOD?! Great question! Well there could be a number of reasons to consider…
The baby has been on round(s) of antibiotics which lowered good gut bacteria, which is resulting in lowering his/her immune system.
The baby is having a reaction to lactose in breast milk which is being consumed by the mother OR another food such as gluten or corn in the diet.
There is fluid built up in the ear. If there is fluid in the ear, I do not advise adding or putting anything into the ear, even mullein which can be effective in drying out the ear, BUT, I would consult with a natural health care practitioner to ensure the right decision for you and your baby.
I’m scared to put anything in my child’s ear!
I hear you and completely understand. The great thing about mullein is that it can be safely taken internally. Just add a little juice to it, and have them drink up. If your child is 12 months or younger, I would advise NOT giving mullein internally. Instead, I would try rubbing garlic oil around the ear (garlic is anti-viral), and massage. If that doesn’t work, check to see if there is fluid built up in the ear.
Mullein brands that I trust and highly recommend:
If you only trust organic products, I totally understand, that is why I included organic mullein in this list:
Non-organic mullein with garlic already infused (works great, just not organic): http://amzn.to/2zbXsaM
Just organic mullein without garlic (my preferred and trusted choice): http://amzn.to/2ysH9CW
Mullein tincture for dry coughs: http://amzn.to/2BpCeZ5
Remember, Mommy instincts come first, always trust your gut. I have been fortunate to try mullein on myself and I know that it works. If your Pediatrician is advising you to put your child on antibiotics, I would really consider getting a new doctor. Just my opinion though!
